Event: 16th Annual Whirligig & Weathervane Festival

With $1,500 in prizes up for grabs in more than a dozen categories, the 16th Annual Whirligig & Weathervane Festival is scheduled for Shelburne's Historic waterfront on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20, 2015. There are more than fifteen awards in eleven categories for whirligigs, including People's Choice, Best of Show, Most Whimsical and First Time Entrant, plus an award for Best Weathervane. Awards for Best Human Whirligig and Best Whirligig from Garbage are also on tap this year.
The Festival Weekend also features displays of local arts & crafts, rug hooking, folk art and more. Friday night features a Ukulele Hootenanny ($5 admission) and Saturday is the Great Uke Camp "Uketacular" concert at the arts centre ($20).
The festival has been growing each year and the Festival Committee is committed to spreading the word to whirligig builders far and wide. Past builders have come from Shelburne, Queens, Lunenburg, Yarmouth and Halifax counties and a far as Ontario.
For many years the festival was the only one of its kind in the world and continues to be the largest featuring hand crafted machines and only one of its kind in Canada. Whirligig makers can register in advance or at the Festival. There is no registration fee.
