The Halifax Urban Folk Festival is an annual music festival whose mandate is to present and promote professional songwriters from Canada and around the world in an urban festival setting. The festival takes place in various downtown Halifax venues, such as The Carleton Music Bar & Grill, The Rock Bottom, Tempo, The Loose Cannon, The Seahorse, and The Economy Shoe Shop. 2015 will mark the sixth edition of the festival, which will take place August 30 – September 6 next year. HUFF is the result of the rantings and reveries of local business owner Mike Campbell, owner of the Carleton Music Bar & Grill on Argyle Street. Past performers have included Alejandro Escovedo, Willie Nile, David Lowery, Dave Pirner, Dwight Twilley, Danny Michel, Steve Poltz, Tom Wilson, Robyn Hitchcock, Bryan Potvin and Garland Jeffreys.
