Package: Snorkel with Whales
Sun, May 1, 2016 to Mon, Oct 17, 2016
Don your mask, snorkel and fins for a soft-in-water encounter with whales. After taking a zodiac tour out to the whales, you’ll enter the ocean and float quietly on the surface, allowing the natural curiosity of the whales to draw them closer. This is an encounter in the whales’ environment on their terms, turning the tour participant into the exhibit.
The tour focusses on the species which are the easiest the snorkel near, the slow moving Fin whales and large pods of Pilot whales. On average, Fin whales are 23 metres (75 feet) in length and Pilot whales, which are the largest species of oceanic dolphins and grow up to 7 metres (23 feet) long. These gentle giants will welcome you into their environment, allowing you to hear their underwater song and watch them feed and play.
During this guided tour, you will also explore the underwater environment of coves and sea caves along the Cabot Trail’s rugged coast, which are only accessible by boat.
All equipment, including wetsuit (5mm and 7mm), hood, gloves, flippers, mask and snorkel is provided.
