Experience life in 18th-century Canada - Time travel into everyday lives within Louisbourg and tackle some new old skills
Rub shoulders with Louisbourg’s resilient residents and time travel into their challenging lives within a remote fortress. During a trio of hands on workshops, you'll hear about the struggles and triumphs of the residents, while learning long-forgotten skills that were once commonplace. Drop into the home of Madame DeGannes and watch how to make lace by hand as she explains what it was like to raise six children while her military husband was off fighting wars. At the grand stone King's Bastion – Louisbourg’s fort within the fortress – hear the stirring tales of a soldier struggling with long hours, harsh winters, meager rations and limited chances of promotion. Then, enter the warm Grandchamp Tavern for a blast of pure bliss. Take part in the complex procedure of recreating a rare Old World culinary treat – the favourite of Louisbourg’s elite – hot chocolate. Savour this authentic recipe made of our historic Heritage ™ Chocolate.
The Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site is a spectacularly recreated fortified town set on the scenic Atlantic coastline, and is the largest historical reconstruction in North America. Appreciate the detail, connect with the tradition and time travel to 18th-century Canada.
