Package: The Lobster, The People, The Story
Tue, Jul 5, 2016 to Mon, Oct 17, 2016
Departing from the Government Wharf in the center of Port Hood, join local fisherman, Danny Gillis for a tour around Port Hood Island and along the coastline. As you make your way out into the harbour, you'll learn about the local fishery, it’s importance to the local economy, and why fishing "gets in the blood", before trying your hand at hauling up a lobster trap and holding a live lobster.
Continuing around Port Hood Island, you'll hear about the history of the island, while watching for seals, sea birds and bald eagles. The tour continues along the coastline towards West Mabou. Soak in the stunning vistas of rolling hills and farmland and hear about the people who settled here and the many descendants who still call this area home. On the way back to Port Hood, Danny will play some local fiddle music and give you a chance to try mackerel jigging (fishing rods included).
Tours are 2 hours long and depart at 2:00pm.
Price: Adult - $42.00 plus tax; Children under 12 - $30.00 plus tax
