Step into the natural and people’s history of the beautiful Margaree River Valley during this guided walk. Led by a local Cape Bretoner, Hannah, you'll visit historic locations and natural features along the way, while hearing stories about the local living culture and the global reach of this rural community. The tour also includes:
• A river walk to learn about the local flora and fish, particularly Atlantic salmon that have brought people to the Margarees for centuries
• An overview of the area history from the Mi'kmaq through to present day, by visiting prominent and hidden heritage locations in Margaree Forks
• A unique map of Margaree Forks created by a Cape Breton artist
• A lesson on Scottish Gaelic, the dialect of the Scottish immigrants who settled in this area
• Tips on the local square dances--a must-do while visiting Cape Breton
• An ice cream treat that all locals love

The tour starts at the gazebo at the Visitor Information Centre and Library in 'downtown' Margaree Forks.

Length: 1 1/2 hours (about 2.5km)

Tours Offered: Thursday to Sunday at 12 noon, from July to September
